Richmond Dragway IHRA Summit Pro Am and Champion Systems Sportsman National Wrapup

Richmond Dragway hosted the largest IHRA Pro Am and Sportsman National weekend of the 2009 Racing Season and had a great weekend of racing action. Drivers and cars rolled into Sandston, VA from all up and down the East Coast. From as far North as Nova Scotia, Canada and as far South as Fort Lauderdale, FL.

Stock — Monty Cornwell, Nova, 7.069, 94.50 def. Anthony Bertozzi, Camaro, 6.717, 97.53.
Top Dragster — Ray Weinstein, Dragster, 4.917, 140.06 def. Chris Cepelka, Dragster, 4.836,
Quick Rod — Bo Upton, Dragster, 7.865, 63.81 def. Chip Johnson, Dragster, foul.
Top Sportsman — Mike Koontz, S-10, 4.748, 142.72 def. Stephanie Raynor, Grand Am, 5.058,
Super Stock — Bob Phillips, Lebaron, 6.727, 100.76 def. Bryan Worner, Camaro, foul.

After Sunday’s Champion System Sportsman National, 7 more drivers visited the RD Victory Lane but these seven also punched their tickets to participate in the IHRA’s Tournament Of Champions World Championship Runoff at Rockingham in the Fall. Results are:

On Saturday Night, Todd Welzel took the American Racecars Run for the Dragster Race win and got a brand new American Racecars Dragster for the top spot. Steve Witherow took the victory in the High Roller gamblers race!
Richmond Dragway is already preparing for the 2010 invasion of the IHRA’s Sportsman Touring Series and looks forward to everyone’s return trip to our facility!
