Donati and Cox keep the “Big Checks” from the Collision One $10 Grand Slam at HOME

Published by Johnny Davis on August 8, 2011

Two local drivers shared the winners circle on August 6-7, 2011.  That part’s not an unusual scene at Richmond Dragway.  The unusual part was the checks for $10,000 per day that Beau Morris congratulated each driver with in the Victory lane as JB Donati and Keith Cox both earned victories in the Collision One Paint and Body $10 Grand Slam.

JB Donati capped off a great week of racing with his 2nd big win in 7 days with the $10 Grand Check from Beau Morris at Collision One

For Donati, it was a great exclamation point to a week that included a victory six days earlier in the IHRA’s Summit Tournament of Champions qualifier during the Henrico Sportsman Showdown and a 5.49 Door Car victory just 24 hours prior at VMP.  To say that Donati’s been on a roll, is quite the understatement.  He has turned on the winlight in 20 consecutive rounds in the past 6 days including the finals on the Collision One $10 Grand Slam where he took out the Mustang of North Carolina’s Shannon Justice Jr.

Cox spent his week prior to the big win in mechanic mode working on some fine tuning on Chad Traylor’s dragster when Chad offered

Keith Cox, in Chad Traylor's car, hustled his way thru the field on Sunday to claim the $10,000 check from Beau Morris in the Collision One day 2

the ride to Cox during the $10 Grand Slam to just check things out.  He did so much more than that with the Sunday afternoon victory in the $10,000 Grand Slam when he pocketed $10,000 and the huge check from Collision One Paint and Body.  Keith Cox took out Oral Chambers Jr. in his Nova to cash the big check.

There was lots of other racing during the weekend including a High Roller Gambler on Saturday night with a $150 buy in and paying out 80% that saw Nick Womack celebrate in victory over Marty Dabney.  Saturday afternoon, Donald Wiggins took out Archie Davis to win the Gamblers event.  On Sunday afternoon, Mike Bailey scored an emotional victory in the gamblers over Ray Weinstein.

“It was a great weekend of racing despite the weather forecast” commented track owner Johnny Davis.  “We dodged some rain drops and certainly endured some hot temperatures but to celebrate in Victory Lane with Beau Morris’ Collision One companies and present the “Big Checks” to two local drivers made it an awesome weekend!  I can’t wait for our next Collision One $10 Grand Slam events next year!”
