AED Performance Points Champions Crowned
Published by Johnny Davis on September 22, 2011
As the sun rose on the final day of the 2011 AED Performance ET Points season, there were literally a multitude of drivers with a legitimate shot at being the 2011 Track Champions but when the dust settled, three victors came out on top.
In Superior Tire Top ET, Kenny Young lurked near the top of the standings for the whole season with a mid season charge to the top spot during the summer and then clung to the Championship that was decided after 2 rounds of racing at the final event. Young has been victorious in Championship situations with a VMP Track Championship and 2 Raider Challenge Championships to his credit but cashed in for the first time in his long career as the RD Champ this season. Kenny edged out Ray Weinstein, Wayne Talley, Brian Mollison and Bobby Jordan to capture the 2011 Crown!
Rocky Pintavalle earned the 2010 championship last season in Superior Auto Modified with a dominating victory and nearly an entire race advantage over his competitors, this season was a little different story though. In route to his 2nd in a row track championship, Pintavalle sat in first place for a few months of the season but had a red hot, Mike Alexander Sr. breathing down his neck as the season roared to a close. At the Championship deciding event, Alexander had to advance 2 rounds further than Pintavalle to unset the leader. Rocky was knocked out of the event in the 3rd round and left only to watch as Alexander steamrolled into round number 4. With just 1 point separating the drivers in the 4th round, Alexander fell to Ronnie Jeter on the track and left Pintavalle to claim his 2nd championship by the slimmest of margins, a single point. Alexander finished 2nd, followed by Steve Burke, JT Taylor and Ronnie Jeter.
In Junior Dragster competition, Michael George had the most commanding lead of any of the drivers entering the final event, but a determined Rachael Whitney understood her challenge and triumphed to victory in decisive fashion. George bowed out in the first round and Whitney rolled thru the field earning not only the 2011 Junior Championship but also the race victory – She won the battle and in doing so, also won the war! Michael George Jr. finished 2nd while Keith Dunkum Jr., Kennedy Weis and Jessica Goodman rounded out the top 5.
“It was a most thrilling “Championship Sunday” stated track owner Johnny Davis. “To have all of our championships come down to the final event and then be played out on track that way couldn’t have been better scripted. On behalf of all of our staff and crew we offer our congratulations to all of the Champions, our thankfulness for the support of off of the Points participants and our sincerest appreciation to series sponsor AED Performance for their support of the 2011 Championship chase! “
