2014 Track Prep Equipment Upgrade

Published by Johnny Davis on August 26, 2014

In an effort to continue to provide an outstanding racing surface for our competitors, Richmond Dragway has invested in state of the art wheels and tires to outfit the Kubota Tractor.

“With the new traction compounds and their aggressive nature, we were seeing lots of issues with the tires that came standard on our Kubota.  The tread pattern was doing as much damage to our surface as the drag was helping it.  After consulting with some of the leading experts in track preparation and seeing the equipment of the Traction Twins from Colorado, we decided to invest in the wheel and tire combination that they have used on their equipment including the tractors that prep NHRA, IHRA, PDRA along with facilities such as Norwalk, Bandimere and Galot Motorsports.  It may not look like a large investment, but it is a sizable upgrade for our tractor because of their very specialized nature,” commented track owner, Johnny Davis.

The new wheels and tires are designed to “tread lightly” on the freshly prepared racing surface while providing maximum traction for the Kubota tractor to pull the drag to apply fresh rubber to the surface.  In combination with the new Traction Compound Sprayer we added last year and a recently overhauled Buffalo Turbine Blower, we now have a nice arsenal of track prep equipment to continue to provide our customers with a consistent and fast surface they have come to expect.
