Richmond Dragway is a 1/4 mile International Hot Rod Association sanctioned dragracing facility in Sandston, VA.  The site features 130 acres with a full service concession stand, VP Racing Fuel Station, and a 3 story Timing and Scoring tower

Richmond Dragway utilizes a state of the art Accutime Timing System along with 48″ Scoreboards and LED Dial In Boards for the drivers to verify their dial ins.  Courtesy of Computer World, Richmond Dragway offers 1320go.com Live Timing to users around the world!fire12

During race events, drivers are protected by the track owned Richmond Dragway Rescue Services including Ambulance and dedicated Fire/Rescue vehicle

For track cleanups, there is specialized cleanup-crewequipment for oil dry application, a brand new Kubota Tractor with Sweepster Broom and Tire Drag and a Track Vaccum meaning that oildowns and other cleanups last only 20-25 minutes

Historically speaking, Richmond Dragway has one of the most impressive pedigrees of any racetrack in the country.  Founded by Dan Weis, his father

 John “Pop” Weis and family, Richmond Dragway was built in 1964  and has hosted dragracing events for over 45 seasons! 

In the mid 60′s, RD was home to the NASCAR (Drag Division) Spring Nationals hosting the likes of Don Garlits, TV Tommy Ivo, Connie Kalitta and so many more 1/4 mile heros.  Into the 70′s, Factory Doorslammers (Pro Stock) became a wildly popular class and the biggest names in the sport including Ronnie Sox, Dyno Don Nicholson, Warren Johnson, Bob Glidden, and Bill “Grumpy” Jenkins tamed the strip.  In the 80′s and 90′s, the track enjoyed success with the Pro Modified groups headlined by Scotty Cannon, Rickie Smith, Tommy Mauney and so many more.

Today, Richmond Dragway is owned and operated by Weis’ nephew Johnny Davis and his wife Allison.  Under their direction, the track will play host to an IHRA Summit Pro Am Divisional Event as well as the Champion Systems Sportsman Nationals in May.  The future looks bright for this championship facility!
