This Weekend: Saturday TnT Plus King of the Streets Car Show

Richmond Dragway has a Saturday “daytime” TnT this Saturday, May 18th from 11 am to 4 pm open to ALL CARS, ALL CLASSES plus Motorcycles. Gates open Saturday at 10 am and runs from 11 am to 4 pm for everyone including street legal cars, motorcycles, Top, Mod, Juniors – Literally ANYTHING goes on Saturday for both the 1/8 and 1/4 mile finish lines. Tech closes at 3 and staging lanes close at 3:45 pm.

Longtime RD Competitor and Friend, Johnny Dillard Passes

After a racing career that spanned the entire lifetime of Richmond Dragway, the RD Family bids a fond farewell to Johnny Dillard . Dillard was a Carb wizard and a renowned engine builder in the Richmond area not to mention a pretty tough driver back in the day. His beaming smile and friendly demeanor will be greatly missed around the pits of Richmond Dragway.

“Johnny Dillard was an RD institution and will be so deeply missed by so many” commented track operator Johnny Davis. “Dillard was a good friend and certainly one of the best supporters of Richmond. It showed in his dedication to our racers and our track. He was there nearly every week even spending his final day with us on Saturday. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Frankie and the rest of Johnny’s family and certainly his countless racing friends that he leaves behind.”

AED Performance presents the “Perfect Package Program”

During any of the 2013 AED Performance ET Points Events, any racer who has a “Perfect Package” Run during the Bogey run or Eliminations will recieve a commemorative trophy from AED Performance and will have his/her name put into a drawing to be held at the 2013 Racer’s Banquet next winter for a great prize package courtesy of AED Performance.

To qualify for the “AED Performance Perfect Package Program” a driver must make a run that includes a reaction time perfect to the thousandth .000 and go dead on his/her dial to the thousandth (ie 5.50 dial must run a 5.500) (any number can be at the ten-thousandth position .000x and dead on 5.500x). If you accomplish this feat, bring your timeslip to race control to be initaled and then stop by the AED Performance Showroom at 2530 Willis Road to pick up your prizes. This program is open to competitors in all classes that compete during the AED Performance ET Points Series including Top, Mod, Street, Junior Dragsters, Ladies Challenge and Motorcycles.

“This is an awesome program open to any of our competitors and truly rewards exceptional on track performances” commented track owner, Johnny Davis. “Johnny White and Trey Dotson wanted to put together a program to give a great package of awards and prizes to drivers who put together a great run and this is the ultimate deal!”

Update: March 9 – WE HAVE ADDED DATES FOR THE LADIES CHALLENGE SERIES, MOTORCYCLE POINTS SERIES, QUICK 8 PROGRAMS FOR TOP AND MOD AND SOME OTHER UPDATES – CHECK OUT THE REVISED SCHEDULE NOW! We are still finalizing some of our programs for 2013 but in an effort to get you our most up to date schedule for your planning, here is the 2013 Tentative Racing Schedule. We have a few TBA events listed as we finalize some events.

For 2013, we see the return of the AED ET Points Series with an expanded 16 events (new for 2013, racers will get 2 vacation vouchers (10 points each) to be used at the first 2 missed races (non rainouts) in 2013) Racers that attend all 16 events (or every event that is contested after rainouts) will get a 3 point bonus at the end of the season. “These changes are designed to reward our racers with flexibility for vacations and other events during the season while honoring those that attend every event with a small bonus as well. Trying to find the right balance is a tough program but I believe this combines the best of both worlds for our racers!” commented track owner, Johnny Davis.

Also returning to the schedule is our wildly popular AED Friday Night Street Series and Open Test and Tune. Those events will be contested 14 Friday nights April through October. Marquee events including the Collision One $10 Grand Slams, Friday Night Showdown Series, AutoFab Raider Challenge, Halloween Klash, Hangover Nationals and the IHRA Pro Am Tour also find prominent positions in our lineup. We will also see visits from the Heads Up 4.90 Series and the Southern Outlaw Top Sportsman Series as well.

“This schedule is a combination of working to find the “sweet spot” for our racers in combination with working with our local tracks to balance schedules regionally for everyone’s benefit. The only thing left is to fire up those motors, do a quick burnout and hit the track! I can’t wait for 2013 to start!”

As of 3/12/13 we have made some adjustments to the 2013 racing schedule including the addition of the Susan McLauchlan Jewelers Ladies Challenge Event dates (must be street legal cars with license, inspection, closed exhaust and valid tags), a new 6 race Motorcycle ET Points Series crowning the first Motorcycle Track Champion in nearly 10 years and our Quick 8 events for Dragsters/ Doorslammers and Modified ET along with a special addition to our Wednesday Night Program with a 5.99 and quicker doorslammer class (to be run in the same manner as the Southern Outlaw Top Sportsman do) Check out our updated schedule TODAY!

AED King of the Track Details

Thanks to AED Performance, our ET Points and Friday Night Series Sponsor, new for 2012 is the AED Performance King of the Track program that invites all event winners (in Top or Modified) back to the strip on Saturday, March 16th for an “invitation bracket race”. This race is free (with a paid general admission purchase of $12) to the qualified drivers (see list below). Please note that some drivers may have qualified more than once to compete, this does NOT allow for double entries. Each participant is entered only ONCE.

Top and Modified will run seperate on the 1/8 mile finish line. Each class winner pockets $500, each runner up grabs $200 and each semifinalist takes home $100 for nearly $2000 in free payouts just for winning an event at RD. This King of the Track (invitation only/King of the Track participants must pay the $12 general admission fee for the day) will be run in conjunction with our Test and Tune (OPEN TO EVERYONE) featuring racing on both the 1/8 and 1/4 mile finish lines from 11 am to 4 pm (gates open at 10 am) TnT will be $25 car and driver and general admission is $12 per person. King of the Track participants will get 1 time trial at 1:00 pm on Saturday – if you want to Test and Tune more than the 1 time trial and then the King of the Track eliminations, you can purchase a TnT Tech Card for $25 and do so.
